Job Title: Gardener

Location: Nairobi

Salary: Kes 20,000-30,000

Our client, Sheraton Hotel, is looking to hire a skilled and experienced Gardener to maintain and beautify their gardens and lawns.

As a Gardener, you will be responsible for performing a range of tasks such as soil cultivation, pruning, weeding, edging, planting, and maintaining equipment and machinery. 

You will also ensure that the gardens are free from litter and hazards, and that they comply with current Health & Safety at Work legislation.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain the gardens, lawns, and plants at the residence.
• Cultivate soil, mulch, water, rake, weed, edge, prune, sow seeds, prepare beds, and plant.
• Use and maintain hand tools and basic light machinery.
• Report equipment malfunctions to engineering as and when noticed.
• Maintain the gardens and footpaths clear and free from litter at all times.
• Plant and transplant flowers, shrubs, trees, and lawns.
• Maintain the gardens by naturally fertilizing, trimming, and ensuring that plants are receiving adequate water.
• Prune trees and hedges in ways that help the plants’ health, are safe and look good.
• Maintain lawn and grass areas using machinery, natural fertilizers but no chemicals.
• Keep the tool shed / store room clean and tidy.
• Provide guidance to management on matters related to the garden.
• Advise management on the costs of plants and garden necessities with detailed written quotations and reports.
• Ensure a safe environment for staff and clients by adhering to safety and health regulations.

Qualifications:

• A certificate in Gardening is an added advantage.
• At least 2 years’ proven experience in a similar role in a hotel setting.
• Ability to handle a range of horticultural machinery and powered hand tools.
• In-depth knowledge of plants and gardening techniques.
• Friendly personality with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Solid understanding of health and safety rules and legislation.
• Self-motivated.
• Enthusiastic.
